Louise Erdrich Im A Mad Dog

Langen Foundation, Grevenbroich, exh. Xiao Su

I had the opportunity to the Museum "Long Foundation" to visit in Grevenbroich. This is currently a very interesting exhibition of Chinese artist Su Xiaobai shown. The artist is a native Chinese, but has now adopted German citizenship. Growing up during the Cultural Revolution, he was trained as an artist at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. He learned here the foundations of ancient and modern Chinese art, which was at the time of Chinese socialism, know. As a master student, he was lucky to get a scholarship by the first Chinese student at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf. There he studied with Prof. Konrad folding rear, where in 1992 the second time it took to master students. For him, Dusseldorf was initially a culture shock. But he has learned to bring the traditional Chinese arts and crafts with modern European art to a symbiosis.

He takes up the old tradition of Chinese lacquer technique and essentially creates large-format images, which usually have a three-dimensional effect. The coating technology is extremely complex and is characterized in part by several years of preparation time. There are dozens of paint layers applied over one another and always polished and ground. The drying time for each layer makes each of the climate / season of at least 1 week. The large-sized objects appeal to our modern feeling for art and stand out, despite the extensive work than very basic from. The exhibition was an aesthetic experience. It runs until 24-5-10.
